WinterPrep

Although I wasn't going winter-prep shopping intentionally, I suddenly bumped into this coat and boots @ H&M. The coat has something special to it that I can't specifically define, but I immideately felt the need to buy it. It doesn't really have sleeves, but you create the sleeves by wrapping the sjawl and wide flap around you with a button. It has three layers, and you can wear it anyway you want, which makes it so special and triggers your creativity. Accompanied with this easy comfortable and flat boots that you can't seem to find in genuine leather anymore my winter protection was bought at first sight!! I folded the knee-flap inside, so that they become shorter and straight boots that do not go over the knee. Now the leather strap at the back is at the top of the boot. You need some improvising, if you can't seem to find straight normal boots, for which i've been looking for a long time.

Floral fun

I'm happy that florals remain, they create such a colourful and happy touch to your look... This year the florals will get more subtle. I guess we now enherit the florals from the post-war era in the fifties. Glamour from the post war prosperity colours fashion in Spring/Summer 2012. Let us all enjoy the colour for a bit longer. I found this pic from last year and though it contibuted to this item...

Camden Rock

Oh no, it's actually Camden Lock, though in my experience it certainly Rocks! One afternoon in London I decided to go to Camden. I had heard about it, and I certainly wanted to go there. The way there was not easy, but after I asked several people I finally arrived there. My first thought, WOW, this place is busy, and I like it! It was bautiful weather and people were sitting next to the water, where little boats were cuising. Most of them were young and urban, but most of all fashionable. it was there in Camden and around the Camden Lock market, where the true creators of fashion live and spent their time. It was great. Frontages of stores were no way near normal and creativity shined through them, people wore vintage clothing and got that ultimate London streetstyle edgy look and piercings stores could be found anywhere. The market itself sold great items for the cheapest prices. The food and clothes came from all the countries and the atmosphere was perfect. People were cooking in humongous pans, dishes from anywhere. It smelled amazing and people were so friendly and inspirational. It was there where cultures mixed and collided, which created such a special fashion scene. You could buy items from anywhere. From beatles vintage looking sweaters to chinese feather embroidery. And people were not afraid to mix it up overdone. This to me was perfect evidence of how fashions trigger creativity and how it stimulates people to come up with original creations in their styling. Whenever I'm going bac to london i'm going to spend a lot of time in Camden and do my shopping in Camden. This is where fashions emerge, are (re-)invented and are mixed up in the most original possible way. People have their own style and culture. It is surely a place you should visit if you haven't been there!

Vintage treasure hunt

I found this lovely vintage jacket at a store on Brick Lane. The atmosphere of the neigbourhood is a bit darkish, but evevrybody working in teh stores is amazing. The old part of the city where the lane is located is a true inspiration itself. You get that kind of feeling of decay, though undergroundish scenery, which could turn into amazing parties. it is not for nthing that this neighbourhood is visited by many fashionable people, who set the trends and invent the fashions. It is a rough area, which makes it special and mysterious and a lot is still to be discovered. It is a great surrounding for underground parties, local bars, terrasses and little boutiques. Not only to spare money, but also to find fabulous finds you should go there. Get inspired by the bricks of Brick lane that tell a story itself.

Fashion Week

Paris/Milan/London and New York Fashion week untill now have only been amazing. To my opinion Paris is doing the best this year. Certainly Paris always has that certain sophistication, but this year it has that extra touch of creativity, although my favorite shows this year were those of Marchesa, Dolce & gabbana and Dior. Models look stunning and the fashion gets better next spring than it was for a long time. It looks joyful, fresh, but also chic and elegant. There's mixtures of fabrics like leather and chiffon, but also cotton and even plastic. We've seen many suit like outfits. Current key trends that have been spotetd simultanuously on the runway are; maxidresses, high waisted hotpants, suits, loose fittings, see-through skirts, longer sleeves, knee lenght dresses, high-neckline shirts with wide shoulder necklike, weirds structures, tectures and mixed prints, a-symmatric silhouettes and bare tummies. Everything gets more swirly than the straigned outfits of this season. We get a look back into the twenties where women emancipated themselves and started wearing shorter dresses and even trousers. The flapper dress makes its comeback and boyish outfits look stunning. But also the fifties are returning. Post-war fashion such as swirling skirts, white blouses, florals and high heels create much more hapiness in the Spring/Summer 2012 fashion season. Late 1950s A-line silhouettes have also found a place in the collections. Colours like yellow, orange and pinkish red have coloured the runway. But also simplistic silhouettes in traditional black&white, beige and navy gave an additional chic and formal edge to it. It represents a sophisticated emancipated woman.

Dutch Models shining in Milan, Paris, New York and London

The Dutch models are doing truely amazing. When watching several fashion shows online, I noticed that the Dutch models are present and shining in absolutely every single show. Fashion week in Paris, New York, London and even Milan are being dominated by great names like Mirte Maas, Patricia van der Vliet, Daphne Groeneveld, Nimnue Smit and Melissa Tammerijn are continuously spotted on the runway of the greatest name sin Fashion. It really makes me proud. Of course Dutch people are known for their height(not me), but not only that differentiates these girls from the other's. I think that all of them really have strong expressions and recognizable faces. Well, look for yourself and you'll see what I mean...

Short Courses

Internship

I think that short courses are probably the best way to get you into your study of interest and help you to gain pratical experience in the field. So called pre-univeristy courses and shorts courses are being taught at almost any university or institution. Last summer I went to Introduction to the Fashion Industry (creative 16-18 year olds) on the London College of Fashion and it was truly amazing. I learned a lot in such as short timing. WE created our own fashion label for our own created customer profile, including all the calculations and buying tables. We did trendspotting and area checking. We went to oxford street and covent garden to watch the people and question them about fashion. We made re-arrangement store plannings, created our own magazine and produced a brand-new idea for the covent garden market area. We came up with a tea-room where you could read vintage books and listen to music in old English couches, which must attract locals instead of tourists. The things we learned were really great and we did a lot of groupwork. Nothing was explained in detail so that we could give the assignments our own twist. Currently I really want to go on some other short courses. I can do summer school in Polimoda Florence in Fashion marketing and on LIM College in New York. Hopefully I will get enough experience to study a great Fashion course in Amsterdam or London, with the focus on Merchandising, Management, Marketing and Journalism. (Design is not really my thing!!)

If you get the oppurtunity, grab it, because it is very helpfull and looks great on your resume!!

Fashionpaint

When my French teacher asked me why fashion was important to me I had to think only for a few seconds. I responded; Pour moi la mode est un art. La mode stimule notre créativité. I knew this for a long time, because that is the way I see fashion. It's an extraordinary art form, in which you can express yourself in the best possible way. Not only by designing but also by styling and dressing. It is a way to express your emotions, but also to show people the way you think, by combining certain patterns, shapes and colours. At that right moment I thought to myself that fashion can be described as the paint of a painter and the human body is the empty canvas. This was the inspiration behind my blog-title.

This perfectly describes what I mean; it is as if it were a painting, it is not just a piece of fabric, but it tells you something and expresses something. This expresses exploration, future and travel. The woman with strenght who has an adventurous spirit, according to me. But people interpret fashion in different ways. In this way it defiens art again; it triggers people to interpret the art itself and people form different opinions about it and interpret it all in their own ways. They see different things. It stimulates to think creatively.

In this blog I do not want to post regular posts like photo's of myself dressed up. I want to write whatever I like or to me seems in any way related to fashion. I want to write about fashion shows, but also post pictures of things that inspire me. I want to post whatever I like, because fashion is freedom and has endless oppurtunities. That is what makes it so beautiful!

I hope you guys enjoy...
